Guest Engagement Volunteer Opportunities

Begin Your Volunteer Journey: Start with Guest Engagement

Most volunteers begin as a Guest Engagement Volunteer, one of the Museum's most important and flexible volunteer roles. Guest Engagement Volunteers help create exceptional experiences for our guests by welcoming visitors, scanning gallery tickets, assisting at the Information Desk, providing wayfinding support, and helping with other guest-facing activities throughout the Museum.

Volunteers gain the knowledge and confidence needed to support a variety of Museum experiences while working closely with the Volunteer Engagement team.

Shifts are available seven days a week, including Friday evenings. To remain active, Guest Engagement Volunteers complete at least 12 shifts each year.

Expand Your Opportunities

Once you have experience as a Guest Engagement Volunteer, you can choose to expand your involvement in one or both of the following ways.

  • Facilitators
  • Special Events

Whether you choose to focus on Guest Engagement, become a Facilitator, volunteer at special events, or participate in all three, you'll play an important role in helping the Denver Museum of Nature & Science create meaningful experiences for our community.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete the following steps.

  • Apply by completing the appropriate application.

Be part of the excitement as a Guest Engagement Volunteer, where every shift is a chance to create memorable experiences for our guests! Whether scanning gallery tickets, greeting guests with a warm welcome, assisting at the Information Desk, or guiding guests through the Museum as a Wayfinder, you’ll play a key role in bringing the Museum to life. Join us and make every visit extraordinary for our guests!

Volunteers in Prehistoric Journey

Facilitator

Interested in inspiring curiosity and engaging guests in hands-on learning?

Facilitators lead interactive activities throughout the Museum, including Exploration Station carts and roaming facilitation opportunities. Facilitators help guests make connections with science, nature, and culture through conversation, observation, and discovery.

No previous experience is required. You will start as a Guest Engagement Volunteer and then you will have the opportunity to attend a Facilitator Training. Once you attend a training and successfully complete a Facilitator Review shift, you can facilitate. All training is provided by the Museum.

Volunteers at the Information Desk

Special Events Volunteer

This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved with DMNS, especially if you have a limited or changing schedule. Special event volunteers support the Museum by assisting with Member Open House, Free Days and Nights, Temporary Exhibit Member Evening Events, Science Lounge, and more! While many of these events occur in the evening, there are opportunities at other times. Volunteers assist with wayfinding, ticket scanning, and at the information desk, as needed, depending on the event.

Person Playing the Piano

Piano Player Volunteer

Share your love of music with our Museum guests! As a Piano Player Volunteer, you’ll bring the Museum to life by performing on our beautiful Steinway piano. Shifts are two hours long, but if you’re inspired, you can sign up for four shifts per week. Join us and help create a magical atmosphere for everyone to enjoy!
