Denver Museum of Nature & Science Raises Nearly $32 Million for Reimagined Dea Family Gems & Minerals Hall

Largest exhibit fundraising campaign in Museum history supports new exhibition, education programs and youth experiences.

DENVER (June 24, 2026) — The Denver Museum of Nature & Science announced it has raised nearly $32 million for the future Dea Family Gems & Minerals Hall, surpassing the original $30 million goal and making it the largest exhibit fundraising campaign in Museum history. The campaign also completed its full $1 million Gems & Minerals Challenge Match in less than three months, far ahead of the original nine-month timeline.

Scheduled to reopen in late 2027, the reimagined hall will transform a long-beloved Museum experience into a new exhibition exploring the essential role minerals play in our planet and everyday lives, from sunscreen and cell phones to jewelry and beyond.

“The extraordinary support for the future Dea Family Gems & Minerals Hall reflects our community's deep connection to the Museum and it's belief in the power of science, education and discovery,” said George Sparks, president & CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. “This campaign will help us create an experience that invites guests to explore how their world is made of minerals and better understand the essential role those minerals play in our lives.”

When it reopens, the Dea Family Gems & Minerals Hall guests will be immersed in an experience featuring treasured favorites such as the Alma King, Campion Gold, Diane’s Pocket and the Dali Topaz, alongside remarkable new additions. In total, 1,700 specimens will be on display, including 1,200 specimens that have never been exhibited at the Museum..

In addition to supporting the exhibition itself, funds raised beyond the original $30 million goal will expand learning opportunities for school and youth audiences. These efforts include developing new field trip adventures in the exhibition about earth’s minerals for school and youth groups at the Museum, as well as Curiosity Kits and Wonder Workshops that students and youth groups can explore independently or with facilitation from a Museum educator, transforming classrooms and other venues outside the Museum.
